Abstract: To guarantee the safety of working face during stop mining period, field observations of the support resistances were taken in the first working face of Wangjialing Coal Co., Ltd. By analyzing the data from pressure gauges and digital displays, support resistances behaviors of fully mechanized top-coal caving working face with high mining height during stop mining period were obtained. The results show that strata pressure along the working face direction had a wave properties, the support resistances would increase with an interval of 20~30 supports. As for the support resistances for each support themselves, it would be a stable range during the stop mining time. The support resistances distribution for both the front and back abut in the working face during stop mining period was similar to that of the mining condition, and the highest resistance was smaller than that of the mining condition. During the stop mining period, resistances of both the front abut and the back abut had an increasing tendency. In general, the real time front resistance was smaller than the setting load, while the back one was higher than the setting load, so the back resistance was higher than the front one.
